Why the pipe objects
Gum stays sticky, does not dissolve in water and can attach itself to a pipe or disposal component.

Wrap used gum in paper and put it in the trash.

Do not add solvent or chemical drain cleaner. Remove uncured material from the fixture without pushing it deeper, then contact a plumber or hazardous-waste program.
